THE ARTIST COOPERATIVE
The artist cooperative is dedicated to providing regular studio space and exhibition opportunities for artists with lived experience in homelessness. We meet Tuesdays in the Church of the Reconciler sanctuary for a new craft and free creative time for artists. We host a gallery at least every quarter so artists can exhibit and sell their work. We are always trying to move towards different exhibition options and are open to community partnership.
COMMUNITY LEADERS
Community leaders are all currently or recently homeless members of the Church of the Reconciler community. Each leader has indicated interest and desire to help build a peaceful and positive community by sharing their own talents. Our 4 person community leader co-hort meets once a week to share best practice and plan their classes, each leader teaches a one hour skills class per week that is open to the public. Currently we offer instruction in guitar, piano, and drums. There is a board game/cards group, crafting, and a reading/literary group. Our leaders are passionate about the community and are honing their organizational skills while building work experience and earning a small stipend.
ID RECOVERY
The lack of vital identification documents are often a large barrier for those experiencing homelessness. Lack of ID can create a road block when attempting to obtain employment, bank accounts, housing, and a variety of other essential needs. We are able to help replace or renew Alabama ID cards, social security cards, and birth certificates in order to assist individuals with their journey of progress.
DEPOSIT FUND
Once an individual has found housing, there is sometimes a hardship when attempting to obtain move-in fees. (for example deposits or application fees) We recognize that it is hard to save money while being unhoused. ( It’s expensive to be poor!!) Because of this, we strive to build a housing deposit fund with donations from you!!! As little as $300.00 has been the difference between getting housed or staying on the streets. Every donation helps us to get more people housed.
